Help, and what’s new.
Most of what’s below came from someone using it, in a comment on the video or a message on Skool. Here’s what changed, how to update, and the questions people ask most.
How to update
Updating is the same as installing. Paste the prompt into Claude Code or Codex again, in the same folder you installed it from. Or tell your Claude: update Quant Terminal from part-timequant.com/kit. Your charts, alerts and watchlists stay as they are.
Bar magnifier and spread
A bar only records its open, high, low and close. When one bar touches both your stop and your target, a backtest has to guess which came first. This clip runs the same strategy twice to show how much that guess can move the result.
- Bar magnifier. In the Strategy tester, under Fills inside a bar, pick Bar magnifier. It loads the finest lower timeframe that covers your test in up to 20,000 bars and says how many bars it covered. TradingView’s path (open, the nearer of high and low, the other, close) is there too.
- Spread. Spread % fills buys at the ask and sells at the bid, and stops trigger on the side that would fill them. Live spread reads it from Binance, Coinbase or Kraken. For stocks and forex, type it in.
- With Claude. In a strategy’s JSON these are
"intrabar": "magnifier"and"spreadPct": 0.02.
What’s new
Every change is live in the download. Paste the prompt again to get them.
- NQ, MNQ, ES and MES futures
Type NQ, MNQ, ES1! or MES to chart the CME index futures. They run about 10 minutes behind and the chart says so. With your own Polygon futures key they chart the live front contract.
A YouTube comment - Use your own data key
Add an Alpaca or Polygon key in data/feeds.json and stock charts use it first. An Alpaca account costs nothing and gives live US stock prices. The key stays on your computer, the public sources stay behind it, and each chart says which source it’s on.
A YouTube comment - The install check can’t get stuck
On a busy computer, one of the install checks could wait forever for the app to start. It now waits up to 30 seconds, and every step of the check has a time limit, so it always ends with READY or NOT READY.
- Stock charts under a day have volume again
Yahoo started refusing the app’s requests, so 1 minute to 4 hour stock charts fell back to a feed with no volume. Yahoo answers again, so those charts get their volume and older bars back.
A YouTube comment - Bar magnifier and spread in the strategy tester
Stops and targets can fill on the real lower-timeframe bars inside each bar, or on TradingView’s open, high, low, close path. A spread setting fills buys at the ask and sells at the bid, and reads the live spread for crypto.
A YouTube comment - Either/or exits and a time exit
Exit on whichever exit condition fires first, or after a set number of bars if nothing else has.
A Skool message - VWAP on daily and longer charts
VWAP and TWAP were hidden on daily and longer charts. They show now, and VWAP can restart each day, week, month or year.
A YouTube comment - Gold and silver
Search XAUUSD, XAU or gold for spot gold, and XAGUSD for silver.
A Skool comment - 25 more indicators, 87 in all
Including Chaikin Oscillator, Chande Kroll Stop, Connors RSI, Fisher Transform, Klinger, Know Sure Thing, McGinley Dynamic, Williams Alligator and Fractals, Zig Zag, TWAP and Guppy, each checked against TradingView’s formula.
A YouTube comment - Previous day high and low
Two lines at the previous day’s high and low, or the previous week’s or month’s.
- Pick the exchange
Search lists each coin on Binance, Coinbase and Kraken, each with its own chart.
A YouTube comment - Installs that get blocked keep going
When Claude Code’s auto mode or a safety check blocks a step, the agent hands you one command at a time and the rule to allow it, instead of stalling.
A Skool message - Fairer quant checks
The Monte Carlo scales each trade by your position size, and the cost stress tests some slippage even when yours is set to 0.
A Skool message - Session volume profile
A volume profile for each day, week or month, with the value area and point of control.
A YouTube comment - Anchored VWAP
Click the bar you want to anchor it to. It draws from there with 1x and 2x bands.
A YouTube comment - Chart notes in plain words
When a data source is busy, the chart says which one it switched to, without error codes.

Questions people ask
A symbol won’t add
Type it into the symbol search at the top left. Crypto works as BTC or BTCUSDT, US stocks by ticker (NVDA), forex as EURUSD, and Yahoo symbols with a prefix, like YAHOO:ES=F. Search lists crypto on Binance, Coinbase and Kraken, so you can pick the exchange. If search doesn’t list it, the public data sources don’t carry it.
Is the data live?
Crypto streams live from Binance, Coinbase or Kraken. US stocks come from Nasdaq and Yahoo, with only a short intraday history, or live from your own Alpaca key (see the next question). Forex comes from Kraken, which shows the last 720 bars.
Can I use my own data feed?
Yes. Make a file called feeds.json in the data folder inside quant-terminal, with your Alpaca key or your Polygon key, and charts use it first: {"alpaca": {"keyId": "PK...", "secretKey": "..."}} or {"polygon": {"apiKey": "..."}}. An Alpaca account costs nothing and gives live US stock prices on the IEX feed. The key stays on your computer and only goes to that provider. Each chart’s legend names the source it’s on, and npm run doctor checks the key.
Is there CME or futures data?
Type NQ, MNQ, MES or ES1! in the symbol search for the CME index futures. They run about 10 minutes behind, because CME charges for live futures data, and the chart says so. For live bars, add your own Polygon futures key (see the question above). Other futures work through Yahoo, like YAHOO:GC=F, when Yahoo isn’t rate limiting your connection.
Can I run my Pine Script indicators?
Pine Script doesn’t run in it. The built-in indicators follow Pine’s formulas, and your Claude can rebuild one of yours as a file in the custom folder: paste it the code, or describe what it does.
Does Claude need to stay open?
Only for the install. After that, double-click start.command on a Mac or start.bat on Windows, or run node scripts/launch.js in the quant-terminal folder. Stop it with node scripts/stop.js.
The install stopped, or Claude asked for permission
Claude Code’s auto mode and safety checks sometimes block a download. The prompt hands you the command to run yourself, one at a time, and the permission rule if you’d rather allow it. Once that’s done, paste the prompt again in the same folder.
Where are my charts saved?
In the data folder inside quant-terminal, on your computer. Updates leave it alone, so your charts, alerts and watchlists carry over.
Still stuck?
Leave a comment on the video with what you see, whether you’re on Mac, Windows or Linux, and whether you used Claude Code or Codex. Comments get read and answered, and when something’s broken the fix goes out to everyone. That’s how most of this page got written.
